Ollie Gerrard loved machinery, country music and travel

A truck, tractor and vintage car run is being held in memory of Ollie Gerrard, who passed away suddenly in Tenerife on the December 28th, 2018.

Ollie started working at a young age, helping out his uncle Pat Burke in Drumcree, before spending a few years with Gaughrans on contract work according to friends and family.

He later moved on to the trucking scene where he spent many happy years working on the continent and living in the UK.

Upon his return to Ireland, Ollie purchased a Green Scania 143 and low-loader where he travelled all over the country moving machinery.

Machinery was always a passion for Ollie, the bigger the machine the more joy he took from it, evidenced by joining harvesting teams in the USA and Australia.

Family

Ollie eventually moved home to help look after his mother alongside the rest of his family, before finally returning to Gaughran Brothers where he was known for his hard work ethic and likeable nature.

According to those close to him, Ollie was a countryman at heart and had a great passion for country music. He travelled many miles to attend country festivals and shows to see his favourite performers and dance until the early hours.

A jovial character, Ollie always enjoyed the craic, sentiments his wide circle of family and friends would strongly agree with.

With the assistance of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT), Ollie’s remains were returned safely home to his loved ones.

The KBRT aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances.

All proceeds from the run will go directly to the KBRT.

The run

The truck and tractor run will take place on Sunday (May 5th). All vintage vehicles are welcome from cars and motorbikes to tractors and trucks.

Registration will start at 11 am in Gaughran's Transport Yard, Ballinlough, where there will be ample parking available. Entry per vehicle is €30.

The convoy of vehicles will then depart Ballinlough at 13:00 pm, with the full route to be disclosed closer to the date.

Upon returning to Ballinlough, there will be refreshments & entertainment in the Halfway House.
