Are you bored with your current farming routine and looking to shake things up? Fancy switching life in Ireland for the winter months and taking in a working trip to New Zealand? Then the job below could be the one for you!
The Job -
The available position was recently posted on a discussion group on Facebook, with the farmer looking for assistance on a 77hectare dairy farm in the country.
The farm is located in the heart of Waikato on the North Island, with 300 cows for milking daily.
“I’m looking for a capable person to assist myself on a 77ha/192-acre, 300 cow dairy farm in the heart of the Waikato on New Zealand’s North Island. Start date is flexible but the sooner the better.” Posted farmer Allen Collinson.
"The farm is situated near Matamata, the home of the hobbits, on the North Island of New Zealand. The farm is part of a larger sharemilking business with 225 cows milked on another farm directly across the road." Allen told That'sFarming.
The farm produces around 1.8 million litres or 155,000kg milk solids, with cows milked through a 32 aside parlour and fed a combination of grazed grass, maize silage, palm kernel and chicory crops.
The main requirements needed to be considered for the position are good stockmanship skills, a fun personality and experience within the dairy industry.
Other skills which are not essential but are preferred are welding, foot trimming, and experience with John Deere tractors and machinery. A college education is also preferred, but again, is not essential.
“We require a person with dairy experience, good stockmanship skills and fun personality. Skills that are preferred but not essential are foot trimming, welding and experience with John Deere tractors.” The post reads.
“A college education is preferred but again not essential, simply as a 2nd year visa is easier to get if you decide to stay longer than 12 months.” It continued.
All applicants must also be over 20 years of age, with a full clean driving licence required and a lack of criminal record also a must.
“We always send people home better off than when they arrived and many have gone onto great jobs within the industry in the UK.” Allen told ThatsFarming.
Allen's father, who is based in Lancashire, will interview the applicants. He has also completed 5 calving seasons with the team in NZ.
What’s on offer -
The successful candidate will not only obtain the full--time position but will also be provided with a 3-bed house approximately 5kms from the farm.
They will also offer a competitive wage, depending on experience.
“We provide a nice 3 bedroom home 5km away from the farm. We pay a competitive wage depending on experience.” It reads.
“We provide a fun and positive work environment with past employees available to act as a reference for myself as an employer.” it adds.
All those interested in applying for the post are urged to send their C.V along with information for two contactable references and a short cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
