Met Éireann has retained a status orange, low temperature, weather warning for much of the country for tonight.

Motorists have been warned to exercise extreme caution, as temperatures could be set to hit minus 8 in certain areas of the country tonight.

A status orange, low temperature, weather warning, remains in place until tomorrow morning at approximately 10am, with Met Éireann warning of “extremely low temperatures” from between minus 2 to minus 8!

They warn of “severe frost, ice and lying snow”, with east Connacht, Ulster and Leinster the worst affected areas. They warn that roads and footpaths will be “treacherous” due to the accumulation of snow and ice.

Gardaí have also warned motorists to be careful, while they also advise motorists to not clear windscreens with hot water. This is because it could crack the windscreen.
