Today the 18th of January, MEP for the North-west Mairead McGuiness was successful in her bid to be re-voted as Vice President in the European Parliament.
She did in the past week announce that she was running for the position but this is after a failed attempt at becoming the EPP nominee for the President.
There are 14 positions up for place and Ms McGuiness was optimistic she will be re-elected after holding the current position since 2014. The secret ballot took place today.
Furthermore, there have been elections to replace President Michael Schulz, who has held the job for the past 5 years.
Antonio Tajani, EPP nominee was elected president yesterday after the fourth count. He defeated Mairead McGuiness in his way to becoming the EPP nominee, 94 to 57 votes. The EPP is the largest group in the European Parliament.
