Laneways belonging to farmers must not be used as walking routes during Covid-19 – UFU

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is reminding members of the public not to use private laneways as walking routes.

It said that several members have been contacted by the public, seeking permission to use their laneway. The UFU has reiterated the risk involved in allowing such activities to take place.

A spokesperson for the farm group explained: “The Covid-19 virus can live on metal gates for up to three days and, due to the risk of transmission associated with this, farmers have been advised not to allow anyone to use their land as an exercise route.”

“It is vital that both farmers and members of the public take this guidance on board to protect themselves and their loved ones from the illness,” the statement concluded.
