The EU has confirmed that Mercosur Trade deal could, in fact, be complete by February next year,
They have also confirmed that the EU’s offer on beef as part of the deal, has not being revised, Minister Hogan has confirmed. Hogan made the announcement yesterday in Brussels. Hogan did add though, that significant progress had been made in negotiations, though he warned that no deal will be made ahead of February. He said he is confident that the deal will be made by February.
"Mercosur talks were quite difficult during the week and there are 15 open issues still in the negotiations.” he said.
"We feel we have made progress and we hope we can conclude successfully a deal between Mercosur and the EU, provided our conditions are met, in February 2018." he added.
It had been proposed, by The European Commission, to let up to 70,000 tonnes of beef to be exported by Mercosur countries at reduced duties. This is substantially less, than the 100,000 tonnes previously offered by the Commission in the beginning of the trade deal negotiations in 2004.
