A man, in his 70’s, has been rescued from the sea in Co. Clare, after he lost his footing and fell in, as reported by breakingnews.ie.
The man had been fishing with friends near the Blackhead Lighthouse in North Clare. Reports suggest he then lost his footing and slipped into the sea. This occurred at around 2pm this afternoon.
The man stayed close to nearby rocks to prevent being pulled out to sea. He was then pulled out of the water by his friends after about 5 minutes. They had called for help in the meantime and the Irish Coast Guard unit of Doolin were contacted.
They were busy with another incident at the time, so could not respond as quickly as hoped. An ambulance was also called from Ennis to help. Rescue helicopter Rescue 115 was also called in to assist with the rescue.
The arrived at the scene within a few minutes, and the man was airlifted to hospital in Galway, a whole 90 minutes after he was rescued from the sea. He is said to be in good spirits and without significant injury following the incident.
