John Cremin, a 29-year-old dairy farmer from Ardagh, Co. Limerick, has announced his intention to run for the Macra Na Feirme Munster Vice Presidency.
The news was revealed over the weekend after John received the unanimous backing of his Macra peers at a county meeting held on Thursday 8th February in the Golden Vale Bar, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. John had previously declared his intentions to run at a meeting of his home club, Shannonside Macra, on January 29th to which he received a rapturous round of applause.
John’s Credentials -
John is a full-time dairy farmer milking 80 cows on the family farm in Co. Limerick.
John also has a degree in renewable energy and electrical energy systems. John first joined the Macra ranks over five years ago at the National Ploughing championships in 2014 and has become a pivotal member ever since.
“Macra has been an excellent outlet for me and I have gained so much from the organisation that now I feel it is time to give back to members and share the skills and knowledge I have learned along the way.” said John upon announcing his intention to run.
Mr. Cremin has been a dedicated member of Limerick Macra Na Feirme and was an invaluable aid in hosting the National Conference/ Rally in Limerick in 2016. Having been Limerick Macra Agricultural Affairs Chairperson and Chairperson of their Young Farmer Development Group for three consecutive years, Johns past work certainly stands to his campaign.
At national level, John Cremin currently sits on the Rural Youth Committee and has previously sat on the Agricultural Affairs Committee under the same role. He is also a listed contributor on the Macra Na Feirme C.A.P 2020 policy document. Mr. Cremin has twice travelled to Brussels with the Macra Agricultural Affairs delegation and met with M.E.Ps.
John is currently treasurer of Shannonside Macra and is a strong advocate for farm safety within Limerick and has shown this through his organisation of the Limerick segment of the National Embrace Farm Tractor Drive Campaign.
It’s clear to see John Cremin is a worthy candidate for the position and certainly one to watch for the future.
