Locals have been warned that once the manure is spread it is very difficult to prevent the smell.

Locals in the Fife area of Scotland have issued a number of complaints about farmyard manure in recent days.

The Fife Council Environmental Health team were tasked with investigating the odour that was caused by the spreading of chicken manure.

Chicken manure

They have revealed that it is legal to spread chicken manure but there are controls which need to be followed. The Council stated that they would be investigating whether those controls were being adhered to.

On Friday, May 29th, they warned locals that once this type of material is spread, it is very difficult to stop the smell from happening.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Health Fife Facebook page offered the assurance that they are doing whatever they can to rectify the situation.

Complaints

In the days that followed, the council continued to receive complaints about the odour.

They took to social media to acknowledge these complaints and said they are working with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to investigate the problem and decide what further action can be taken.
