The last live export to Turkey for 2016 has taken place. The Braham Express livestock transport ship left port yesterday. The shipment brings the total head of cattle export to the near east country to 20,000.
The Turkish market has provided a much needed safety valve for Irish beef farmers this year.
Following on from Bord Bia visits to North Africa it is hoped that live exports to Libya will provide an even greater share to the hard pressed farmers.
Live exports are reported to have fallen this year. New markets such as Iran and China are seen as key target areas for 2017.
