Lil' Bill - who is believed to be one of the smallest calves ever born - is progressing well and now weighs 14 pounds (just over 6.3kgs).
The calf weighed approximately 4.5kgs at birth - a little over one-tenth of what newborn calves typically weigh - a spokesperson for Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine said.
Lil' Bill became a viral sensation after the college posted photos of the calf on its Facebook page, as reported by us here. Delivered on October 27th, he is thought to be the world’s smallest bull and is currently under the care of the bovine experts at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU-CVM) in Starkville, MS.
In an update, released on Facebook on Tuesday (January 8th), a spokesperson said: "We are encouraging him [Lil' Bill] to become a ruminant, meaning that he is being offered grass and grain (and still some milk)."
"Due to his premature birth, we splint Lil' Bill's legs to protect his joints." The spokesperson outlined.
Regular updates will be posted on Facebook.
