Light bull weanlings a ‘stronger’ trade than entries over 400 kg

Almost 400 lots, including weanlings, suckler pairs and calves, were offered for sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday (June 2nd), according to a mart spokesperson.

They described the trade for calves as “cracking” with up to €640 recorded for a 7-week-old continental bull; suckling pairs topped out at €1,460.  

“Lighter bull weanlings were a stronger trade than the bulls over 400 kg.  Again, the lighter heifers proved a stronger trade with lots under 300 kg averaging €2.62/kg.”

Up to 400kg averaged €2.39/kg, while an average price of €2.10/kg was recorded for entries weighing over 400 kg. “The clearance rate is not as high with the online sale as with the traditional sale.”
