The Department of Agriculture has released information on the TAMS II scheme.

It has been revealed that less than half of the recent applications to the TAMS II scheme were approved.

According to figures provided by the Department of Agriculture, there was a total of 7,157 applications from across the country for the second stage of the Targeted Approved Modernisation Scheme, with 2,829 being granted. This works out at 39.5%.

The figures (whole table below) cover the third tranche of the scheme, or from early April to late June.

The county with the most applications is Cork, as 1,151 farmers there applied for the scheme. 528 of these were approved, working out at 46%. The next county with the highest amount of applications is Tipperary though it has a noticeably better approval rate than Cork; 347 out of 616 applications were approved, leaving the Premier county with a success rate of 56%.

At the other end of the scale are Galway, Cavan and Mayo with 18%, 21% and 25% respectively.

TAMS allows for 40% of grant payments for certain on-farm development, though young farmers benefit from a 60% payment.

Currently no payments have been made, though Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed expects the computer system will be up and ready to deal with grants in the coming weeks.
