It’s hard to believe that 5 lambs could be born to one ewe but as we reported this morning that miracle occurred in Mayo overnight. It seems there is something brewing in Connaught because a farmer in Leitrim has also had a quintuplet lamb birth last night!
Dont believe us here is the video evidence!
The Leitrim Wonder occurred last night on the farm of Kevin Comiskey. His son Jason got in touch with us to tell us the great news.
The ewe who is Suffolk cross was in lamb to a Suffolk ram.
Kevin explained that he had known there would be 5 lambs.
‘She was scanned with 5 by Donegal farm relief so I knew what to expect.’
‘We were laughing today when the scanner was writing the receipt as there’s place for marking quads but no place for marking 5!’ he added.
Kevin said that he then set about watching the ewe like a ‘cat watches a mouse.’ But everything went according to plan.
‘She lambed the first one herself And the we helped with the rest they came out like a chain.’
The 5 lambs are all fine and are a good size for being part of a litter.
Kevin is now beginning the busy job of finding foster ewes but the experienced sheep farmer is not worried.
Its not the first time quintuplets have been born in Kevin’s area.
‘The mearning farmer Joe McLaughlin had a 5 lamb birth 30 years ago and they all lived and they were sold at 40 pound a piece.’
We wish the Comiskeys and the Leitrim wonder well with their 5 new arrivals.
