You may remember his farm from a recent video of Sharon Shannon playing to his cows, see here. But this is not the only reason he is in the news today, as reported by Joe.ie.
Sharon visited the farm, and played music to the animals after she heard of the farmers noble story. She heard of his wish to protect his beloved dairy herd, and ensure they can live out the rest of their days happily.
The farmer, who wishes to remain anonymous, is planning to send his dairy herd to a sanctuary in the UK, so they won't have to be slaughtered. He is doing this as he would like them to live out the rest of their days naturally.
He has set up a GoFundme page to help pay for the costs of transportation costs and health checks required for animals travelling to other countries. The farmer said he made the decision as he couldn't in his heart send them for slaughter, knowing there were better alternative options available for his cows.
The farmer mentioned the bond he has with his beloved animals as a major factor in his decision, saying they deserve more after years of loyal service to him and his farm. He now says he will retire in peace, knowing that they are living their days together as a herd and as nature intended.
