Meet Tegan Doherty, a great girl who wants to be a vet when she grows up and have three sheds full of cattle! It's this week's junior farmer!

Name: Tegan Doherty 12 years old

Location: Buncrana Co. Donegal

Background in Agriculture- when did you start farming? I started farming when I was really young, I always helped my daddy and Grandad since I started to walk

What sort of farming are you at? Cows for beef and I have a pony Oscar

How many generations are your family farming? 5 or 6 my daddies, daddy & his daddy & so on, we have two farms. I live in one, the cows always break out its so funny. My wee brother James runs and puts them back in while I open the gates

Tell me about your farm, system in place? In summer I help grandad move the cows from different fields so they have fresh grass. We get the silage cut in summer, that’s a fun day. I get to help them make the bales and wrap them. We stack the bales up ready for winter. In the winter, we put the cows in the shed (byre) and we have to feed them bales and nuts and water twice a day. I clean out the sheds with granda they stink but I’m used to it.

What is your favourite thing about farming? Getting new calves, I love bottle feeding them if their mammy doesn’t let them feed. Getting new wellie boots, I must have 10 pairs but I wear them all for different days.

Have you always wanted to be a farmer? Yes always since I first saw the cows, my daddy always took me runs in the tractor, it was so much fun

Do you want to study Agriculture at third level? Yes, I really would love to be a vet help calf cows and give them their vaccines and I am going to be a full-time farmer

What are your Future plans for farming? I want to have three big sheds full of cows and a stable full of horses. Maybe some pigs and chickens and a couple of tractors. I'd like a pink one and pink bales.
