Dairy farmer Jimmy Walsh farms near Cullohill, in Co. Laois. He has a herd of 140 spring calving cows and supplies Glanbia with top quality milk produced from low cost forage.
Jimmy is a “great believer in early grazing and regular reseeding with the top varieties of grass seed available”.
He reseeds about 10% of his farm every year and the field in this photo was reseeded three years ago with Top 5 extend grazing mixture from Germinal who are based at Horse & Jockey near Thurles in Co. Tipperary.
The current cover on this field is 1100 kgs of top quality grass DM/Ha and the cows are obviously enjoying this early bite.
Top 5 Extend is Irelands grazing mixture. Top 5 Extend contains AberGain, AberChoice, Dunluce and Drumbo - the highest performing varieties on the Teagasc Pasture Proï¬t Index list. The varieties selected for this mixture excel in spring growth and quality – meeting the demands of intensive grassland farmers.
Top 5 Extend is designed to achieve high animal performance through its exceptional quality values and extend the grazing season with high spring and autumn growth rates.
