An open day will take place on the farm of James and Nelson Alexander - 88 Gloverstown Road, Toomebridge, Co. Antrim on Saturday, March 9th.
Attendees can view over 900 heifers, 60 tractors and 50 4x4’s from 11am to 3pm; the popular event – hosted by the Jalex Herd - attracts suckler producers from across Ireland and the UK.
The family dispersed their 400-strong commercial cow herd in 2014 in a bid to focus more on the sale of top-quality commercial breeding heifers – a mixture of Simmental; Limousin; and Belgian-Blue-crosses.
Heifers are purchased from highly- renowned herds and inseminated to renowned sires; the majority of the cattle go under the hammer in-calve, while the remainder are sold with their progeny at foot.
Farmers travel from the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales to purchase stock from the father-and-son-duo.
The main focus of the open day will be viewing the livestock which will include the 2019 crop of 900 heifers that will be sold in batches throughout the year.
“These high-quality Simmental, Limousin and Blue-types are served to easy-calving Limousin bulls and will make ideal suckler replacements.” James Alexander said.
All stock have been vaccinated for BVD, IBR, botulism and clostridial diseases, according to James.
