Last week, Fianna Fáil TD, Jackie Cahill, challenged the Minister on “the madness of the Mercosur deal”.
He stated that there is no logic in the deal and that it is bad for Ireland.
“This will be the final nail in our beef industry’s coffin,” he outlined in the Dáil.
He said that one of the things that was consistently brought into the conversation was climate change and the challenges that have been put in front of people with respect to climate change.
“And here we have the commission talking out of the other side of their mouth, allowing beef to travel half-way across the world to displace European beef off European shelves” noted the TD.
"We will be 116% self-sufficient in beef when Brexit happens, and still, we have a commission selling out our beef industry."
"This is a sell out for the industrial powers of Europe”. he added.
