Gardaí in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow, are currently investigating ongoing incidents involving sheep in the locality.
A number of incidents have been reported of sheep being stolen and butchered in the fields they are grazing.
A spokesperson for the Garda Síochána Wicklow Facebook page reported that cameras have been installed in the affected areas as part of their investigation.
Gardaí are currently working with local farmers, landowners and others as part of their investigation and are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activities in the area.
Public health
The spokesperson warned that there is also a public health aspect of this incident.
The lambs were recently treated with medication that renders the meat unsuitable for human consumption.
Because of this, they have asked members of the public to only purchase lamb from trusted sources in the area.
