A supermarket chain based in Switzerland has put their best foot forward by offering insect-based products, according to ModernFarmer.com
As recent as last week, Coop has placed two new products on their shelves from start-up enterprise Essento, a mealworm burger and a ‘bug ball.’
The introduction came as the green light was given on 1st May 2017, as Mealworms, grasshopper and crickets were deemed as approved foodstuffs in Switzerland.
The products have since hit the ground running and have sold out in some locations, the company reports.
While the Western European and North American regions are quite a notable distance from such an intensive development, the argument for insects as a source of food continues.
Easy to cultivate, possessing a high protein content, minerals and offers absorption of B12 in a nature way and leaving a low environmental impact are the many boxes that the insects tick.
Now, the million dollar question remains, would you eat mealworm burger? Answer our poll!
