A former fertiliser manufacturer worker has appeared in court over illegal social welfare payments.
The man in question, Charles McGee, worked in a fertiliser manufacturer while receiving regular social welfare payments.
The accused hails from Drumkeen Co. Donegal, and originally made the claim that his former employer told him he was ok to claim the payments for up to a year after the commencement of employment.
Letterkenny District court heard how Mr. McGee claimed for and received payments for 48 weeks in total while working at the same time.
Mr McGee, has paid over €4,000 back already, but still has an outstanding payments totalling just over €5,000.
The accused received a fine of €250 for the offense after being found guilty with two other summonses also taken into account by the presiding judge.
