If you leave or throw litter in a public place, you can be subject to a maximum fine of €3,000 in court.

A local authority is urging the public to report any incidents of illegal dumping or suspicious activity.

Meath County Council made the appeal following an incident in the county in recent days.

In a tweet, a spokesperson said: ‘Illegal dumping has not slowed down with Covid-19, including copper wire stripping at Gormanstown.”

“Please be vigilant. Report suspicious activity to - environment@meathcoco.ie.” the tweet concluded.

€3,000 fine
