Over 50 cattle for Hereford Society’s premier sale

The Irish Hereford Breed Society will host its premier show and sale at GVM Tullamore Mart on Saturday, March 26th, 2022.

The sale will follow the “long-standing format” of pre-Covid times, with the show to begin at 11 am, and the sale will follow at 1 pm sharp.

According to a spokesperson for the society, this year marks the first year of on-farm pre-inspections for its premier sales.

Mr John Beirne and Mr Clive Jennings carried out inspections in advance of the sale.

The society added that 45 bulls & 10 heifers will come under the hammer on the day.

Of the 45 bulls:

  • 86% are rated 4/5-star on the terminal or replacement index;
  • 73% are rated 4/5-star for carcase weight or carcase conformation;
  • 82% are above breed average on the Dairy Beef Index.
Irish Hereford Prime sponsorship

Irish Hereford Prime will, once again, support the IHBS sales this spring.

It will sponsor €250 towards each bull sold over €3,000 & over at the premier sale.

Furthermore, it will sponsor €200 towards each bull sold for €2,800 and over in Kilmallock, Nenagh & Bandon.

The society has announced a new auctioneer for its 2022 sales in the form of Eamonn Gaffney.

Eamonn auctioneers weekly in GVM Carrigallen and has worked at several pedigree cattle sales and the Winter Fair in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Irish Red Cross / Ukraine crisis appeal

In other news, the Irish Hereford Breed Society has committed to donating all commission from its premier sale to the Irish Red Cross/Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

There will also be an iDonate funding page set up in the coming days, and the society will issue a link to this page via SMS to its members.

There will also be collection buckets on the day of the sale.
