New cubicle sheds are nearing completion at Gurteen Agricultural College in Co. Tipperary which will mark the conclusion of their farm upgrade. Speaking to the Principal – Mike Pearson told That’s Farming, “We started development in November ’17 and the cubicle sheds will be the final building to be completed”.
The college has been continuing works on the main farm for the past two years, with a sheep shed that has doubled in size and the sheep are now housed under one roof in the new building.
The new milking parlour operates a 30-unit DeLaval system that was opened by Simon Coveney in 2018 and the new cubicle shed will be complete by autumn 2019, ready for the new college year.
“The cubicle shed will house 140 cows as we are increasing the dairy herd from 120 to 250 cows," said the Principal.
Students attending the college in September will have access to the new buildings and equipment as the college are expecting another 100% course enrolment.
