The Vote comes after strong French demands that the product, the world’s most common weedkiller be banned.
A 2015 WHO report found that the chemical ‘probably’ causes cancer while an EU Food safety and chemical agency found that not to be the case.
The discussion will take place during the meeting of Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed.
As stated in a Press Release, MEPs say that plans should be drawn up in order to phase-out the substance, with a complete ban on household use firstly and a ban in use for farming when biological alternatives work well for weed control.
Agriculture accounts for 76% of the use of glyphosate worldwide.
The current EU approval for glyphosate is set to expire on 15th December 2017.
