The Department of Agriculture have released date, which shows that almost 8,000 farmers are yet to receive any GLAS payments.
The news comes after last year’s long waits and recent promises from Minister Creed that payments will be made on time. Last year some farmers didn’t receive payments for months after they should have, with most of them recently receiving the last bit of their payment.
The figures released by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine show that just over 7,900 farmers are still awaiting payment. This has been put down to a lack of Nutrient Management Plan being submitted. Any payments and balancing payments of up to 15% from last year’s applications will be put on hold until these plans are submitted.
These balancing payments from 2016 will be submitted weekly to farmers, upon the submission of their Nutrient Management plan. These plans must be submitted before any payments are handed out or any advance payments on the 2017 scheme are made.
