Tributes have been paid to Gerry Mulligan, Currycramp Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim who died peacefully in his 98th year on March 9th at Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.
He will be missed by his wife, children, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends and societies.
He was a well-known cattle breeder and was renowned for his presence on the show circuit.
Releasing a statement, a spokesperson said: “The Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society Ltd are saddened to announce the death of their Honorary Vice-President - Gerry Mulligan – a committed Executive Member of the Society for many years.”
“Gerry was a constant at all events in The Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon and his open friendly presence will be greatly missed by all.”
“The Society extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Bernadette and all his family.” The statement concluded.
"A true gentleman"
Others have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to the deceased.Lloyd Donnelly said: “His great wit and humour will be sadly missed by all who knew him so well.”
“Always a great stalwart at Mohill Show in the cattle section, he was known by many far and wide.” He added.
Others wrote: “He was a true gentleman who would always make you laugh.”
“R.I.P. Gerry – one of life’s great characters and gents. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him and especially his family.” Another cattle breeder said.
