Farmer and father of two, Gareth Sproule was agitating slurry last Tuesday (June 25th) he when his daughter Zara (4) warned him about the dangers of working with slurry.
In a post on social media, he said, “Tonight for the first time ever I haven’t went into the shed while pumping slurry..... why? Because my 4-year-old daughter when she heard what I was going to do said to me ‘No daddy people die doing that’..... funny how it takes a 4year old to drive home a message! #farmsafe”Speaking to that’s Farming, Gareth said, “It played on my mind the whole evening”. He admitted that he would sometimes go into the shed to check how the work is progressing, but he didn’t do it that evening after the stark reminder from his daughter.
Their grandmother Margaret had been talking with the children about farm safety a week earlier and the conscientious four-year-old ensured the rules were followed.Zara and her sister Emily (6) love helping their dad on the farm, especially during lambing season. Indeed, Zara even lambed her first ewe this year..
