Gardaí have asked all road users to check their vehicle’s tyres regularly.
At a recent COVID-19 checkpoint in Letterkenny, Gardaí discovered a car with an extremely bald tyre.
In a social media post, they reminded motorists that the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm.
Conduct necessary safety checks
Gardaí reminded motorists that the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm; all road users are being advised to check tyres more regularly once the tread depth reaches 3mm.
In a social media post, a Garda spokesperson, said: “The more worn your tyres become, the less grip they will have on the road surface. Rain is forecast and as a result, the road surfaces will be slippy.”
“We ask everyone to conduct all necessary safety checks on their car before getting behind the wheel! Do not take to the road if your car is not in a roadworthy condition,” the statement concluded.
