Fish kills again take todays headlines as news has broken of a significant fish kill in the Tolka river in Dublin overnight.
Several hundred fish died as a result of a blocked sewer in Mulhuddart leading to overflow sewage discharging into the river.
The fish kill was reported at 5pm yesterday and Inland fisheries staff were on site within 30 minutes.
Trout, minnow and stone loach were killed as a result of the accident.
A second fish kill was reported on the Eiscir River in Athenry this week with a small quantity of brown trout killed. It is unclear if the second kill was a result of farming practices.
Speaking on RTE Inland Fisheries staff commended the public for their timely reporting of incidents.
