Fire equipment stolen from scene of gorse fire

An investigation is under way after fire equipment was taken from the scene of a gorse fire in Gorthaganny, Co. Roscommon.

The equipment is valued at over €2,000 and is believed to have been taken at around 8pm.

Firefighters from the Ballaghaderreen, Ballyhaunis, Charlestown and Swinford fire stations were called to a bog fire shortly after 5.30pm on Saturday evening (May 16th).

The fire caused considerable damage over what is believed to be a 2km area.

While the emergency teams were dealing with the blaze, equipment such as tools, lighting and other fire equipment was taken from the scene.

Although the equipment has since been recovered, Gardaí in Ballaghadereen are continuing their investigation.
