An investigation into the cause of a “large commercial fire” at Clonmel Foods, Co. Tipperary is now underway.
The cause of the fire at the former meat factory has not been established as of yet.
Clonmel; Cahir and Carrick-on-Suir fire brigades battled the blaze on Sunday evening, although two units departed the scene in the early morning, shortly after midnight.
Officials from Clonmel remained onsite up until 9am on Monday morning.
“A Very Large Commercial Fire”
In a statement on its Facebook page, posted on Sunday, Tipperary Fire and Rescue outlined:
"Our Clonmel, Cahir and Carrick-On-Suir brigades are currently dealing with a very large commercial fire in the old meat factory in Clonmel."
"Heavy smoke covering the surrounding areas. People living in the area and indeed anyone affected by the smoke is advised to remain indoors, closing all windows."
