The conference will provide Irish contractors with a "new sense of direction" - FCI

The Association of Farm & Forestry Contractors in Ireland (FCI) has welcomed the support of FBD Insurance as the lead sponsor of its upcoming one-day event.

Its biennial Conference and Exhibition (Confex 2019) will take place at the National Show Centre, Cloghran, Swords (adjacent to Dublin Airport) on Wednesday, December 4.

The FCI Confex 2019 theme will be ‘Contracting – The Next 10 Years’ and will provide information to farm and forestry contractors.

There will be a series of information seminars, coupled with a machinery exhibition with more than 50 industry-specific stand-holders present.

Annual turnout of €700m

Speaking at the announcement of the FBD Insurance sponsorship, Richard White, national chairman of the FCI, said: “We are delighted to have FBD Insurance support for our Confex programme once again in 2019.”

“That support is recognition of the important part that farm and forestry contractors play in the Irish agri-food and rural economy where turnover in the agri-contractor sector accounts for €700 million, annually.”

‘Best information’

“Our Confex 2019 event with the theme, ‘Contracting – The Next 10 Years’, will provide Irish contractors with a new sense of direction through information and advice in a structured way to help them to enhance their business to meet the needs of a changing agriculture.”

“We want to see our FCI members play a full part in the future development of the Irish agri-food industry.”

This, he added, can be achieved through access to the best information in order to best the best decisions for their contracting businesses as it continues to support the farming and agri-food industry.”

‘Increasingly vital role’

At the launch, Fiona Muldoon, CEO of FBD Insurance, said: “FBD Insurance is proud to support the Association of Farm & Forestry Contractors in Ireland conference.”

“FBD supports their significant contribution to and growing role in Irish agriculture.”

“Contractors play an increasingly vital role assisting farmers meeting environmental and labour challenges as Irish agriculture adapts to our changing world.”

She said that FBD is committed to working closely with FCI members and to the next 50 years of FBD protection for farm and forestry contractors.

FCI maintains a database of more than 1,200 farm & forestry contractors across the island of Ireland, all of whom along with their machinery operators, will be invited to participate in the event.
