It's International Day of Rural Women!

Today (October 15th), marks the International Day of Rural Women, which was first observed on October 15th, 2008.

It recognises “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty".

On the back of this, the most recent data from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, suggests that, on average, around 30% of farms across the EU are managed by a woman.

Proportion of farm managers who are women (2016):

  • Latvia - 45%;
