Jacob Humphrey, is a sheep farmer from the Dromtarriffe area of Co. Cork.
He contacted ThatsFarming, after becoming frustrated at not being able to prevent his sheep being killed by a local dog. The dog has been continuously attacking his flock, killing two only a few weeks ago.
Following the original attack, Jacob contacted the owner of the dog, requesting that it be kept locked up or that he get rid of it.
“He promised he would,” said Jacob,
“But I went back to check the sheep as per usual today, only to find the same dog killing my sheep,” he continued.
Jacob informed us that he then returned to talk to the dog owner to try and sort out the issue and to receive compensation for all the sheep which were killed.
“He said he is not going to pay me for my sheep and he laughed in my face,” said Jacob.
“He said there was nothing I could do about it to prove it was his dog and he went inside his house and closed the door,” the farmer informed ThatsFarming.
The farmer contacted gardaí, with an investigation into the attacks due to take place. Mr. Humphreys said the remaining members of his flock are now scared for their lives.
“The remaining sheep are afraid, standing by the gate covered head to toe in muck, from trying to run for their lives,” he said.
The farmer then called for harsher penalties for dog owners who fail to control their pets. The farmer has lost four sheep so far this year.
“I think there should be stricter measures on dog owners, because of the sheer amount of sheep being killed throughout the country.” he concluded.
