The accused, Mr. Robert Jenkins, appeared before Letterkenny District Court charged with changing details on his insurance disc with a black marker, and therefore driving without insurance.
The alteration was noticed by Gardaí in Raphoe following a minor accident involving Mr. Jenkins and his tractor, according to Donegal Daily online newspaper.
Upon interview by Garda officials the accused admitted to altering the disc though his defence claimed he has limited literacy.
The date was found by Gardaí to have been changed from 2016 to 2017 by the accused with the help of a black marker.
His defence also said that the accused had failed to reapply for his licence but failed to do so as he was unable to complete the mandatory theory test.
This he claimed is why he could not insure or tax the tractor in question.
The Judge fined Mr Jenkins a total of €400, €250 for having no insurance and €150 for having no tax.
