Gardaí are urging people to be extra cautious with online purchases, as a Longford farmer was defrauded of €5,000, as reported by Shannonside.
They have urged people to NOT lodge large deposits for goods into unknown accounts, as they may succumb to the same fate as the farmer. The farmer in question had thought he was purchasing a tractor from a UK machinery trading site, having agreed to a price of €5,000 online.
The man was then encouraged by the ‘seller’ to lodge the money into a foreign bank account, with the balance due on delivery. Unfortunately for the farmer, his tractor never graced these shores and he has now been left €5,000 in the hole as the seller cannot be located.
