The Wexford People reported a story recently about an elderly farmer who was attacked and threatened by a gang in his home.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night, in Carroreigh, on the old New Ross road in Wexford county. The farmer, aged 73, lives alone in the house and was attacked by the gang.
It is understood that the group arrived at the farmers home sometime between 9pm and 11pm on Tuesday night, with the group of men demanding the farmer hand over any cash. They then escaped with a small quantity of money, but5 not before locking the farmer in the house. They also stole his phone in a bid to prevent him from calling Gardaí, the phone was later recovered.
The farmer had to escape the house through a window at the back of the house when he then made his way to a neighbour’s house to get help and contact Gardaí. Gardaí soon arrived at the scene and took the farmer to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A Garda investigation into the incident is now underway, with any member of the public with any information urged to contact Gardaí.
