Yesterday, June 14th, saw the auction of a four bedroomed period residence on 89-acres, take place in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
The auction was organized by Murtagh Bros and the property in question was located near Johnstown, Slanemore, Co. Westmeath. There were over 24 people in attendance at the auction, with a big interest locally (see below picture).
The sale included not only the luxury residence but also 89-acres of top quality farmland, all under grass and with excellent road frontage. The sale also included many outbuildings and a cattle yard, offering local farmers the perfect opportunity to build up their enterprise.
Bidding started off steady, with two interested bidders from the get-go, preventing others from getting involved. Bidding opened at €500,000, before increasing by €10,000 a time and eventually making it up to €650,000. This was when it was decided to take a recess to discuss the bid with the vendors.
After the break it was decided the property was still on the market and from here bidding increased by €5,000 per bid, climbing to €685,000. Bidding continued from here before the final bid of €715,000 was eventually accepted. The property was sold to a local Westmeath dairy farmer.
