Each year the number of farm accidents and fatalities across the country is on the rise.
A new event, organised by Dairygold and Teagasc, is set to take place this Friday May 12th at Mallow racecourse. The main theme of the event being “Making your farm a safer place”.
The upcoming event provides farmers and people alike to come together and learn about farming safely. It will also hold live demonstrations of the new innovative and safety focused equipment on the market. These demonstrations will be carried out by team members from Teagasc, and Gardaí, Zurich insurance, Farm Relief Services, the Health and Safety Authority and the Road Safety Authority.
The event will have a family focus with specifically organised speaker on a panel to discuss with families the importance of health and safety on farms.
Presentations will be made on the day by local Milk Quality Award winner, Treasa Moher, Agrikids founder Alma Jordan and finally Anna Geary.
Anna, a successful camogie player in her time, was also the Cork Rose in the year 2014. She also was a coach on the popular programme Ireland’s fittest family. She also hosts the weekly health and fitness slot on RTÉ’s Today show. She also serves as ambassador for the Special Olympics, Pieta House, Cycle against suicide and many others.
Dairygold chairman, James Lynch at the events launch in Moorepark said “We encourage everyone connected to farming to come along to the Mallow Racecourse on Friday 12 May. This free event is designed to inform farmers and their families, especially mothers about farm safety, it will be well worth a visit.”The event will run from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm with the speaker panel discussion on family safety running from 11:30 until 1:30. Free entry to all interested, it will be well worth the trip.
