Farming, as you all well know, can be an extremely expensive occupation. But have you considered building some of the equipment you may need, yourself?
Drive Through Gate:
The first, homemade invention, we have to show you is the drive-through gate. This, I do not know how, has not become more widely used. Obviously, you would need access to and be able to use a welder, though if you can/could, then this would be very easily done.
The tracks, seen in the picture, need to be welded together, as does the swinging part of the gate. Imagine though, all the time saved not having to get off the quad?
Next up, seeing as it is calving season, is calf sheds. Now building sheds can be very expensive, therefore it is no surprise to see some dairy farmers, taking the initiative and building their own. They can actually be done very easily indeed. As you can see, from the picture above, this homemade calf shed, was made by simply cutting out a doorway into a fuel container, like the one pictured above.
Homemade Hay feeder:
The next one on the list is a homemade hay feeder. This one would be perfect for those outgrazing horses, or with stock on the land the majority of the year. This design is probably the easiest of the lot to build. All it requires is some fencing, like the one pictured above, two poles and five wooden planks. The poles are rooted to the ground, the planks joined to the poles and the fence nailed to the planks, so fodder can be inserted into it. No design is perfect and there are a range of designs one can choose from, see picture.
Fancy saving yourself a few euros this year? Well then, give a few of these a whirl, it might be worth your while!
