Factory agents on hunt for finished cattle in marts

The base price for steers and heifers remains unchanged at €3.60/kg this week.

Cull cows are ranging from €2.70/kg for Ps, while €3.10/kg is most commonly being quoted for R grades.

Between €3.60-€3.70/kg is on the table for R/U young bulls in a selective number of plants.

It has been reported that factory agents are actively sourcing finished cattle in livestock marts across the country.

The national beef kill stood at 36,422 (including 39 calves), during the week commencing Monday, June 15th, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine’s database.

Breakdown:

  • Young bulls: 3,306;
  • Bulls: 717;
  • Steers: 13,591;
  • Cows: 8,553;
  • Heifers: 10,216.

Corresponding week last year:

  • Young bulls: 4,767;
  • Bulls: 789;
  • Steers: 10,522;
  • Cows: 8,306;
  • Heifers: 10,160;
  • Total: 34,606 (including 62 calves).
