The Irish Family-Farm Rights Group has, in advance of the next CAP, continued to call for the reintroduction of the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme (REPS) to include a €300 payment in support of the suckler cow.
Donie Shine, National Chair, Irish Family-Farm Rights Group (IFRG), said: “I welcome recent reports today of calls by a member of one of the farmer associations for a €300 suckler cow payment, a call initiated originally by the Irish Family-Farm Rights Group.”
'Environmentally and economically responsible'
Mr. Shine said that the IFRG has been calling for payments to farmers under an environmental scheme that would reward farmers for farming at stocking rates that are both "environmentally and economically responsible".
"I am delighted to see that a consensus might now gather momentum around this campaign and if so it is most welcome and better late than nevermore,” he concluded.
