Ennis Mart attracted almost 650 cattle and 200 sheep on Tuesday, January 28th, according to a spokesperson.
“A notable feature in the bull weanling ring was the strength of the bulls on offer. There were a large number of these weighing 420kgs to 520kgs.”
The spokesperson noted that these met with a “good” trade with specialised bull finishers in attendance.
Meanwhile, weanling heifers were back €20/head on recent weeks. A larger entry of calves went under the hammer, with between €55-€85 forked out for Friesian bulls, while continental calves reached €360 – a price that was paid for a 12-day-old Charolais heifer.
“Pairs in the suckler ring hit €2,300 and in-calf lots hit €1,580 despite being quite a bit away from calving.” the spokesperson added.
