Tomorrow, Saturday 1st of December, will see a dry cow and calf-rearing event take place at Midlands Veterinary Portarlington Ltd, will you be there?

With cows currently being dried off and the calving season to soon begin on most farms throughout the country, a Dry Cow Management and Calf Rearing event is set to take place tomorrow at Midland Veterinary Portarlington Ltd on the Lee Road in Portarlington, Co. Laois.

The event will kick off at 10am on the day, running until 2pm, Saturday December 1st and will focus on calf-rearing, dry cow management and how to correctly dose animals during winter. The event is being run in conjunction with JFC, Chanelle and J. Grennan & Sons, and was organised to mark the first anniversary of Midland Veterinary Portarlington Ltd.

“It is our first anniversary and we decided we had to mark the occasion in a way that would give something back to farmers. ” Michael Kenny of Midland Veterinary Portarlington said to That’sFarming.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customer’s for all the support and custom shown to us over the past year since the opening of this new store." he added.

There will be representatives from each company (Midland Vet Port, Grennans, Chanelle and JFC) on hand on the day to offer animal husbandry advice to farmers, as well as further information on some of the products they provide. Chanelle representatives will be offering winter dosing advice.

“Each of the company's will have a stand on the day, Grennan's, JFC and Chanelle.” Micheal Kenny of Midland Veterinary Portarlington explained.

“The farmer will go up to them individually and speak to them themselves.” Michael continued.

One such item which will be showcased on the day is the recently launched JFC Revolution calf feeder, which is a novel approach to being more innovative on-farm.

The event is free for all to attend on the day, with all welcome to attend, young and old.

“Everyone is more than welcome.” Michael said.

Michael noted that it is important for farmers to now begin preparing themselves, for the upcoming calving season, instead of at the last minute.

“It is a quiet period now before calving and calf rearing begins. This event is an ideal opportunity to meet with experts and be prepared for the upcoming season.” Michael said.

“It is now that we need to be thinking of calf-rearing and not when calving is taking place. Farmers can talk to the experts that will be here about all of that.” He advised.

Anniversary Sale -
This is not all the event has to offer either, as to celebrate the first anniversary, Midlands Veterinary Portarlington are having a big discount sale with many special offers on the day.

“We have a lot of discounts. We have 40% discount off some of the items.” Michael Kenny said.

“We have 20% off chemicals, any of the sprays and that, as well.” He continued.

Some of the top discounts include:

  • 40% off selected items in store on the day
  • 20% off selected chemicals
  • 30% off certain veterinary products
  • Buy 5 Mixrite Mineral Lick buckets and get one free
  • €10 per tonne off all bulk feed orders on the day.

Some of the other items sold by Midlands Veterinary Portarlington include bulk and bagged feeds, dog foods, workwear, fuels, fertilisers, per wormers and accessories and herd health and nutrition products.

“I would encourage everyone, as many as possible, to come and avail of the discounts that are to be had.” Michael said.

“It was a tough year for farmers. So, when there are big discounts, you might as well avail of them.” Michael urged.
