4 stranded dolphins were saved from an Achill island beach on Tuesday the Mayo News has reported.
Locals and volunteer helpers worked to rescue the animals.
The four common dolphins were found alive at 11am but were stranded on the beach. Consisting of 3 adults and one minor were helped back to the sea. Sadly a fifth was found on the beach rocks but was not alive.
Locals were aided by Sorsha Kennedy a volunteer with Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland and Achill Island Coast Guard and the animals were returned to the sea at 1pm.
After some initial struggles and the animals being very tired the 4 dolphins were all returned to the sea and swam away.
