Last December a dog carried out an attack on three alpacas, which resulted in the death of one, as reported by fginsight.com.
The dog, has escaped any criminal action being brought against it as alpacas are not classified as livestock in the UK. The attack occurred on a farm in the New Forest last year, with dog having being left unsupervised.
The owner appeared before Southampton Magistrates Court, after the incident which resulted in the two other alpacas needing veterinary treatment. The dog is subject to a civil dog control order which was granted at said court.
The order will last for the whole of the dog’s life, while it must be muzzled at all times in public or any lands not owned by its owner. It must also be kept on a leash at all times.
Police brought the civil action against the dog and it’s owner, to help protect non livestock animals in future.
