DLF grass breeder held a focus event on grass partner Michael and Bernie O’Sullivan’s farm in Castleisland, Co. Kerry with Grasstec and Teagasc yesterday, (July 25th).
Key topics for discussion were;
- Soil Nutrition – emphasis on P, K, and Lime,
- Grassland management,
- Regrowth and covers,
- Grass varieties.
Michael has been using DLF varieties since 2016 and joined the DLF Grass Partner Programme in 2018. He began sowing individual varieties of perennial ryegrass and reports the performance data back into the programme – it is an extension of the DLF research programme.

Earlier in this year, DLF announced a new partnership with the Grasstec Group as the official independent ‘analysis partner’, who measure and record the progression of DLF’s latest varieties.
Here, Noel Enright from Grasstec reveals the four rules of grassland management
DLF has invested in heavily in the research since joining the Irish market in 2015, having screened over 6,000 varieties for application in Ireland.
“Natosha comes form the first round of trials meaning that we may have a winning variety with ore first attempt from our Irish Trials,” said Paul Flanagan – DLF.
