Mairead Loughman is on the search for single women in Agriculture to partake in a novel dating phenomenon.

The special call-out comes on the back of years of one-to-one match-making and the establishment of a table-for-six, a nationwide initiative that involves sending three single ladies and three single men on group dinner dates. Since the official launch back in May 2017, the idea has rolled around the country and to date, Ms. Loughman has sent over 1,600 people out on dates, including those from “all walks of farming.”

“Numerous male farmers have forged a connection with me and they want to meet women involved in Agriculture, with a farming background or have country roots.” Mairead Loughman told Catherina Cunnane of That’s Farming.

Mairead, who specialised in Finance prior to the introduction of this new dating experience, is in a relationship with a farmer from Co. Tipperary and acknowledges that the social setting of rural communities can often make it difficult to find that someone a little extra special.

“Being from a very small community, it can be difficult to meet someone outside of their own social circle and people also want some discretion,” Mairead added.

“Farmers can find it difficult to find love because of the calving and lambing season; they could be out any time of the day or night. People have to be mindful and understanding of that.” Mairead explained.

On the Quest for Romance

Mairead revealed that she feels that there are several people on the quest for romance, admitting that her main objective is to match up as many people as possible through one-to-one matchmaking and/or group dinner dates, revealing that many farmers will be in the mix and make "ideal partners".

“Farmers have to make some very quick decisions, whether it is in the middle of calving or planning ahead for the winter, all of the different things that come on board.

“A lot of farmers have good hearts and are very respectful. The community within the farming is superb and there is always that good will to support their fellow local farmers”. Mairead added.
